Pollination is an essential ecosystem service, vital to the maintenance both of wild plant communities and agricultural productivity. Pollination services depend on both domesticated and wild pollinator populations, and both may be affected by a range of recent and projected environmental changes, with unknown consequences. A decline in wild pollinators, such as wild bees, hoverflies, butterflies, as well as managed honeybees, has been reported throughout Europe. A multimedia clip “Pollinators go silent!” directed at school teachers, farmers, bee-keepers, decision-makers, as well as at public in general has been produced by Pensoft within the EC FP7 project STEP – 'Status and Trends of European Pollinators'. It draws attention to the loss of pollinators and pollination services in Europe and raise awareness about the required mitigation measures. The clip is available on the STEP website and in YouTube.
