The German-Swiss cooperation project „Chicken Creek“ (SFB/TRR38, http://www.tu-cottbus.de/sfb_trr/, not up to date!) is looking for a PostDoc in ecological modelling.
The subproject (C3) aims to develop a general understanding of initial vegetation development, particularly regarding the formation of spatio-temporal patterns. The focus is on processes, interactions and feedbacks operating within the vegetation and between vegetation and environment, and on studying their relative importance in the course of succession.
To this aim, an ecosystem model shall be developed by combining an individual-based vegetation model with a grid-based model of abiotic environmental conditions. Using model simulations under different scenario assumptions, the spatio-temporal trajectories of vegetation dynamics and their predictability will be analyzed.
The PostDoc should be able to develop such a model from scratch, thus a sound experience in ecological modelling and ecology is indispensable.
Work place will be WSL(www.wsl.ch) near Zurich (Switzerland). The project starts in summer 2011, the duration is not yet clear, probably more than 2 years. The project requires a close cooperation with the other scientists of the subproject in Munich (Germany) and with colleagues in Zurich, Potsdam and Cottbus. Knowledge of German will be helpful, but not indispensable. For more information contact lischke@wsl.ch.
